As you begin your journey, you should project the image that you are a professional in your walk and talk. Most people think that modelling is a laid back career option and also an easy going one, when it is actually the opposite. From the time you show up at the place, pay attention to every fine detail and act professional so that people will respect you and enjoy working with you. This way, you will be offered more assignments and work. If you are going for an audition, screening or casting, make it a point not to take along friends, children or your parents, of course, unless you are under the age of 18, since a majority of the agencies may not accept it otherwise. Anyway, for safety reasons, if you are a bit sceptical about the company or agent, it is advised that you bring along someone.

Always try to be yourself; relaxed and comfortable always, since it will all show up when you get in front of people and the camera. Being yourself also implies that you have to be honest when you are asked some questions, or for some matter about your opinions. Do not get intimidated or pressured into having to do something you are not comfortable doing. For instance, if you are not at ease with nude scenes or implied nudity never agree for it just to please the photographer; make an affirmative no. Doing some reading is highly recommended, and you are advised to do some research to know about the modelling industry. This way, you will be knowledgeable about the way the modelling and fashion industry works; you will also be able to smell the scams and can be better prepared not to get yourself involved.

Create a well stacked portfolio; you may need some professionally styled photos apart from the common place snap shots you have chosen to create your portfolio. Do not spend a fortune on this. Instead you can ask the photographers for test shoots, or you can get involved in modelling events or shows, or can volunteer to model for some college photo classes. Collect all the best snaps you can lay your hands on and place at least eight or ten good photographs in a nice portfolio binder. Now you have got something eye-catching to show the various modelling agencies and fashion clients. The more photo sessions you are in, the more will be the experience you garner.

Remember that the world of modelling and the associated business is very competitive. There is bound to be always be someone there who is taller, beautiful and in better shape than another model. Learn to maintain a positive attitude; also learn to deal with rejections and refusals. And, in the end you will do well. Becoming a model is all about a person's attitude, clearly knowing one's roles and exposing oneself to the right audience and market segment. No single person can claim to be the numero uno in the modelling world and fashion industry.
